ELENI ANTONAKAKI Artist Profile

Mrs. Helen Antonakaki was born on October 7th, 1971 in Myrtia, the home village of the great poet and writer Nikos Kazantzakis, in the prefecture of Heraklion in Crete. In 2005 she took up Byzantine Iconography in a workshop in the Church of Saint Ierotheos, which is located in the municipality of Peristeri.

During all these years, Mrs. Helen Antonakaki has created a multitude of portable holy icons and frescos of varying sizes and dimensions.

So far, the key points in her career as an iconographer have been the following:

a. The creation of the holy icons of the Church of Santa Barbara, which is located in the Crete Naval Base in Souda Bay (Chania Prefecture).

b. The creation of the holy icon of “Panagia Eftaspathi”, (translated into English as “Virgin Mary carrying the Seven Swords” and bearing the title “Our Lady of Sorrows”) which, placed in an exceptional position, adorns the Church of Saint Dimitrios in the municipality of Kato Nevrokopi (Drama Prefecture).

c. The solo iconography exhibition which took place online on March 21st, 2021.

d. The solo iconography exhibition which took place on the island of Kastellorizo from August 3rd, 2021, to August 15th, 2021.

e. The solo iconography exhibition which took place on the War Museum of Greece in Athens, from 13th May 2022 to May 17th, 2022.

f. The solo iconography exhibition which took place on Great Club in Kavala (The first city where a Christian church was founded in 49 AD by Apostle Paul) ,from 20th June, 2022 to 24th June 2022.

g. The solo iconography exhibition which took place on the N. Kazantzakis Museum in Creta Island, from 08th August, 2022 to 15th August, 2022.

Mrs. Helen Antonakaki is currently employed as an officer of the Hellenic Navy, having the rank of Ensign H.N.
